What is Alpha Phi?

Alpha Phi Fraternity was founded in 1872 by ten forward thinking women at Syracuse University, Alpha Phi is now one of the oldest and largest women's fraternities in North America.
Alpha Phi is a sisterhood of outstanding women supporting one another in lifelong achievements. This organization assists college women in making informed choices to reach their highest potential. Alpha Phi enhances and promotes each member's development and learning by focusing on sisterhood, service, scholarship, leadership, loyalty and character development.
Alpha Phis are members of a lifelong sisterhood. Our keystone is friendship-warm simple and sincere. In Alpha Phi, there is encouragement, understanding and opportunities to grow. With members all over the world, and collegiate and alumna chapters through out the United States, and Canada, our sisterhood knows no boundaries.

Our Goal

"The objectives of our fraternity are the promotion of growth in character, unity of feeling, sisterly affection, and social communion among our members. In all that we do, we try to obey God's principles of justice and right. We have banded ourselves together to improve our minds and hearts. We seek to aid each other through a constant watchcase always given in love. We believe in ourselves to be sincere searchers for truth. We seek the highest ideal of womanhood, and we try to gain this ideal by cultivating not only the power and passion for seeking intellectual development but, also, the spirit of love and charity and we who are thus united are under solemn pledge to lend a helping hand to one another."

The Eta Delta (ΗΔ) chapter was chartered on April 11, 1987. In Spring of 1985, six members were pinned and led through their new member education process. They then held COB (continuous open bidding) to recruit and pin more members by holding mixers, socials, fundraisers, and more activities on campus until the size of the Alpha Phi colony was approximately 65 pinned pledges. For two years, they recruited more girls by holding more events and finding creative ways to raise money for the Alpha Phi Foundation. In April of 1987, all of the girls in the colony traveled to the Alpha Phi chapter at San Jose State University, where they were initiated by that chapter of more experienced members.

Scholarship

Scholarship is one of the core values our founders built our fraternity upon. We still hold our sisters to the same academic standards our founders had in mind. Our chapter has biweekly study nights to support sisters in their academic endeavors. Sisters tutor each other and form study groups.

We have sisters majoring in a variety of things. Sisters with similar majors are always helping each other and offering advice. Some of our sisters are part of the University Honors Program. No matter what subject you need help in, there's always a sister there for you
